In what has become tradition for the southern portion of the Independent Rifles- We are hosting a WINTER living history at Vicksburg on the first weekend in February. This is a Confederate and Civilian Living History of the actions that took place around the city the winter of 1863. This time period saw the failures of Sherman's assaults near the garrison, and Grant's failure to approach the city overland.
This Vicksburg is going to be different than last years Life on the Line. We will only have one side represented here, and will be in a different location on the park. Because we will be moving around the park, we will be portraying various units. I am still waiting on NPS approval for several ideas, but plan on some good marching. As in the past, all remaining fees will be used to purchase equipment to update Vicksburg's interpretive programs.
Rations will be provided for Saturday and Sunday. You are on your on for Friday. Attendees, except those with a medical condition that may dictate otherwise, should arrive with empty haversacks.
